The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education sent an emergency official letter to schools ahead of the upcoming final exams, defining AI smart glasses as 'prohibited items'. This is interpreted as a preemptive defensive measure to protect the reliability of the test, beyond simply urging caution on campus. The Office of Education viewed unusually thick temples or unnatural manipulation of glasses during tests as signs of cheating, and urged supervisors to pay special attention. In addition, we have established a strong policy that if anyone is found to be in possession of such a device during the test, he or she will be immediately treated as a cheater according to regulations. These warnings are by no means unfounded. This is because two attempts at cheating using AI smart glasses have already been detected at the TOEIC test center recently conducted in Korea. These devices are equipped with ultra-small cameras and sensors inside, so they can scan test questions in real time and send them to the outside or use the OCR function to generate answers. In addition, real-time communication with external accomplices is achieved through wireless voice transmission and reception functions, showing a level of meticulousness that is different from past misconduct. The reason why education authorities provided detailed guidance on how to distinguish between regular glasses and AI glasses is because of the sense of crisis that devices that appear to be ordinary vision correction tools on the outside could seriously damage the fairness of the test.

Similar cases are occurring across borders in Taiwan, and the global education community is experiencing similar concerns. During the entrance exam for National Taiwan University, Taiwan's most prestigious university, a test taker aroused the supervisor's suspicion by taking the test wearing a hoodie and hat even in hot weather. Although the preliminary examination did not reveal anything suspicious, the cheating was eventually revealed when the suspicious behavior of changing glasses during the test was discovered. The glasses that were caught at the time were in a very hot state as they were scanning test questions and calculating the solution process, and this was a clear example of how technology was cleverly penetrating the security network of the test site. In the end, the applicant had to pay a heavy price of receiving a score of 0.

Taking this incident as an opportunity, Taiwan's education authorities decided to hold a notification committee meeting on the 25th to discuss stronger smart device prevention measures. This is not just a problem in Taiwan or Korea, but a global warning about the current test management system that cannot keep up with the pace of technological development. Currently, the Ministry of Education is considering ways to include AI smart glasses on the list of prohibited items for major national tests, including the College Scholastic Ability Test, and to strengthen proctor training from various angles. Unlike electronic devices that have a distinct appearance, such as smartphones or smartwatches, wearable devices are constantly evolving in form by combining with everyday wear, so more precise countermeasures are required.
