The full story of the incident became known to the world on the 10th when a worker working at the Metropolitan Living Resource Recovery Center in the southern region of Yeonsu-gu, Incheon discovered an unidentified object while sorting recycling materials. Upon examination, the object, which was wrapped in a bloody bandage, was confirmed to be a person's left leg, and the shock at the time of its discovery was indescribable. In the early stages of the investigation, the police focused on the small foot size of 210 mm, leaving open the possibility that minors or young students were the victims, and investigated all data on school absentees. However, as a result of a detailed analysis by the National Institute of Forensic Science, it was concluded that this was not simply the body of a minor, but that it was an adult with a height of 161 to 165 cm, and the direction of the investigation completely changed.

The results of this analysis by the National Forensic Service served as a decisive opportunity to condense the scope of the case into a database of missing adults and those who have not returned home. As it has become clear that the child is an adult considering his or her developmental status and leg length, the police have boldly stopped the existing school-centered investigation and are focusing all their investigative power on securing genetic information (DNA) of missing adults. However, in situations where only body parts have been discovered, there are still many limitations in specifying the exact gender, nationality, time of death, etc. The police are currently forming a large-scale investigation headquarters with 104 people, and believe that the voluntary cooperation of families of missing people in collecting DNA will be the key to dramatically shortening the identification time.

Another huge puzzle to understand the truth of the incident is the process of tracing back the route by which the body entered the center. On the day of the incident, vehicles carrying recycling entered and left the center a total of 34 times, and the police are looking for dumping points by comparing the movements of these vehicles with CCTV footage. The problem is that the collection areas of the eight transport companies that bring waste to the center are extensive residential and commercial areas around Yeonsu-gu and Jung-gu. Due to the structural nature of waste collected from multiple collection points being mixed inside a large compression vehicle, advanced data cross-analysis and long-term physical investigation seem inevitable in order to identify the initial dump site.

Immediately after a tragic incident, unconfirmed information is spread indiscriminately through online communities and social media, causing serious harm to the investigation. Baseless rumors that point to a specific person as the perpetrator or determine the identity of the victim not only obscure the original purpose of the investigation, but also cause irreparable secondary damage to innocent citizens. In response, the police are delivering a strong warning message and maintaining their stance that those who spread false information will be severely punished for defamation. Until an official announcement from the investigative agency is made, citizens' awareness of refraining from such speculative posts and calmly observing the results of the investigation is more urgent than ever.
