The ‘Wirye Sacred Heart Consortium’, which combines the operational know-how of Kangdong Sacred Heart Hospital with Meritz Securities and the technological capabilities of Topec Engineering, aims to go beyond a simple hospital and become a complex medical base that combines business and commercial facilities. Although the project's progress has been difficult due to the huge wall of the hospital bed cap system, the uniqueness of Wirye New Town has become a decisive factor in this approval. Although it is administratively located in Songpa-gu, Seoul, the living area of ​​Seongnam-si and Hanam-si, Gyeonggi-do accounts for 62% of the population, which led to the Ministry of Health and Welfare's prospective review.

What stands out in this approval process is the flexible cooperation between local governments. The southeastern region of Seoul has traditionally been classified as an area with an oversupply of hospital beds, making it very difficult to approve new hospital beds. However, due to the actual medical needs of Wirye New Town residents and continued suggestions from local governments in the nearby Gyeonggi-do area, Seoul City and Gyeonggi-do achieved unprecedented collaboration to adjust hospital bed supply and demand plans. This is evaluated as a policy achievement that goes beyond simple administrative procedures and puts the patient's right to movement and practical access to medical care first. The active mediation of local politicians, including Representatives Lee Gwang-jae and Nam In-soon, and the cooperation of related organizations served as a catalyst to fill the long gap of 18 years.

The future that Wirye Sacred Heart Hospital advocates is the establishment of a ‘regional complete emergency medical system.’ The plan to dedicate 40% of all hospital beds to essential medical care shows a strong commitment to alleviating the anxiety residents have experienced due to a lack of emergency rooms. In particular, when a serious emergency patient such as a cardiovascular disease occurs, having a system that allows prompt treatment and follow-up treatment within the golden time is a lifeline for Wirye residents. The plan to introduce an advanced medical treatment system such as a robotic surgery center, dementia prevention center, and cranial nerve clinic based on the operating experience of Gangdong Sacred Heart Hospital, which boasts 40 years of history, predicts that this hospital will establish itself as a key medical hub in the region.

From a technological perspective, Wirye Sacred Heart Hospital aims to be a cutting-edge urban hospital. In particular, it is noteworthy that the introduction of a ‘proton therapy device’, which is considered an innovation in cancer treatment, is being considered. If this is actually realized, it will not only elevate the level of cancer treatment in the southeastern metropolitan area to the next level, but also establish the center as a nationwide medical base. In addition, by providing customized medical services for each life cycle, such as a youth wellness center and senior citizen information center, it is expected to quench the medical thirst experienced by various age groups unique to the new city. As the goal is to begin construction early next year after going through the licensing process, attention is focused on the speedy progress of the future project.
